Fabric Drape Simulator

Choose a fibre and a weight and watch the cloth fall, then compare two fabrics to see which drapes and which stands up.

Educational simulation

Results are computed from idealised geometry. Real fabric, thread and machines have tolerances and wear, so treat the figures as a guide and always follow the specification on the part.

This tool needs WebGL

This device reports no WebGL support, so the interactive model cannot run. The reference figures below are the same ones the model computes.

Procedure

  1. Choose a fibre
  2. Set the fabric weight
  3. Set the hanging length
  4. Watch the cloth settle
  5. Compare with another fabric

Export

5 steps. Exports are generated in your browser from the current model.

Fabric Drape Simulator

Hang a cloth from a line and watch how it falls. Change the fibre, the weight and the hanging length and compare two fabrics side by side.

What it models

  • Choose a fibre
  • Set the fabric weight
  • Set the hanging length
  • Watch the cloth settle
  • Compare with another fabric

What you can export

  • The drape comparison as PNG
  • The fabric figures as CSV

Exports are produced in the browser from the current model state. Nothing is uploaded.

Degradation

Without WebGL this page shows a static reference panel carrying the same figures and the same procedure. On a narrow screen the 3D model is offered rather than loaded automatically, so a phone on a slow connection is not forced to download it.
