Quilting Ruler
A quilting ruler is a straight edge and a measuring tool in one. It is thick enough that a rotary cutter blade rides against it without climbing, and printed with a grid so you can measure, square and cut in a single placement. The 45-degree line is what makes it more than a ruler: it lets you find and cut a true bias without a separate template.

Safety
The ruler is the barrier between the blade and your hand. Keep your fingers on top of the ruler, never wrapping around the edge the blade runs along, and add grip dots so it cannot slide while you cut.

Working notes
- Put your whole hand on top of the ruler; never let fingers hang over the cutting edge.
- Add non-slip dots to stop the ruler creeping on silky fabric.
- Use the 45-degree line to find bias without a separate template.
- Wipe with a damp cloth; solvents cloud the acrylic.
